WITH basin of water, a water proof mat and some toys. Alternatively, do the story in the bath!
* This works well for Bible stories which involve water, e.g. Noah and the flood, Crossing the Red Sea Crossing the Jordan, Naaman’s healing, Jesus calms the storm, the amazing catch of fish.
1 Read the Bible story out loud.
2 Chat about what the people in the story learnt about God that day. How did they feel? Share about things which make you feel the same way, and how you could ask God for help.
3 Re-tell the story using the plastic toys in the basin. Have fun!
This activity works well with the following Bible story:
After Jesus left in a boat with his disciples, a terrible storm suddenly struck the lake, and waves started splashing into their boat.
Jesus was sound asleep, so the disciples went over to him and woke him up. They said, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
But Jesus replied, “Why are you so afraid? You surely don’t have much faith.”
Then he got up and ordered the wind and the waves to calm down. And everything was calm.
The men in the boat were amazed and said, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him.”
Contemporary English Version
If you use this story, you could have a race to see whose boat can survive for longest in the ‘storm’ you create.
Extra something for older children and adults
At least some of the disciples were experienced, professional fishermen so why did they think they were going to drown? Why does Jesus use this familiar setting for them to show them his power?
