Instead of giving something up this year for Lent, I thought I’d take up a challenge: a Lent Creative Prayer Challenge!
I’ve enjoyed various creative forms of prayer for a while, but I’m going to use this Lent to try out some new ways and hopefully find some which I’ll want to use more often.
When writing Prayer GodVenture 52 I realised I could add a lot more creativity to my own prayer life, making it my prayer life more tangible, more continuous, and more fun! When I mentioned this at the Hand in Hand Children’s Ministry conference in February, some people said they’d never thought of applying creativity to their own prayer life, even though they wanted to help children apply it to theirs.
So my challenge is this: For each day during Lent (40 days if I’m not mistaken), I am going to (try and) pray in a different way each day. I say ‘try and’ as I’m
not going to beat myself up about missing one or two. I don’t think that’s God’s way of doing things. No condemnation and all that.
I’m going to use some of the ideas from Prayer GodVenture52 and also make up new ideas as I go, and I’m going to Tweet as I go. If you’d like to follow me, I’m GodVentureVic.
If you’d like to do this with your family, one new way every day might be a bit steep, so why not try one new way each week? There’s lots of ideas here, and there’s 52 ideas here. You could even take pictures of what you try and email to me here and I’ll see if I can post some on the website.
If you work with children, or maybe write, illustrate, edit or publish for children, maybe you’d like to join me on my prayer challenge, after all, we could all do with more prayer in our lives.
And if you do join in, get in contact on Twitter (GodVentureVic) on comment on this post and let’s encourage each other as we ask God to transform our conversations with Him.
